Manchester United eyeing Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag’s reign at Manchester United had started in the worst possible way, with defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

One of the main culprits of the 0-4 at the hands of the Bees was United goalkeeper David de Gea. He had a part to play on three of the four strikes.

The Spaniard is still a great goalkeeper, but under the Dutch manager, his inability with the ball at his feet and reluctance to step off the line have cost the team.

ddg problems

With Dean Henderson on loan at Nottingham Forest, the Dutch manager was out of options and opted to tweak his team’s tactical setup rather than drop his best option at the moment.

Since then, long goal kicks have become a staple of United’s game and the former Ajax boss wants to change things going forward.

Martin Dubravka arrived on loan on deadline day but is not considered good enough to become No.1 and is mainly in a backup role this season.

The Peoples Person had written about the Red Devils and their reluctance to activate the one-year extension on the 31-year-old’s contract due to his form and massive salaries.

Numerous reports have indicated that the 20-time English champions are looking for an elite alternative with Jan Oblak and, surprisingly, Jordan Pickford finding mentions.

Martinez new goal

And now, a new name has entered the scene. Football Insider has exclusively reported that “Man United are closely following Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.”

The Argentine has impressed since signing for Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 from Arsenal for an initial £17m which rose to £20m.

“Martinez is highly valued by the United recruitment team” and his importance to Steven Gerrard’s side can be gauged by the fact that he is valued at £45m.

The Argentine international signed a contract extension in January earlier this year. It could prove to be a canny deal if United want someone with Premier League pedigree.
