The Draw is in – Five Irish boxers in action on European Juniors opening day

Draws have been made for the 2022 European Junior Championships, which will be contested by 24 boxers from Team Ireland.

Five Irish boxers are in action on day one: lightweight bantamweight John Harty opens his account against Azerbaijan’s Ibrahim Zeynalov in bout 5 in Ring B; Welterweight Tadhg O’Donnell faces Mahmoud Karnaba of Cyprus in bout 11 of the same ring and session.

In the opening day afternoon session, bantamweight Anthony James Kelly boxes Scotsman Nathan Lundie. In fight 7, the middleweight of the Irish team, Dylan Dunlop, faces the local boxer, Guiseppe Cirillo. At heavyweight, Adam Olaniyan boxes England’s John-Joe McCormack in bout 11.

Several boxers from Team Ireland are through to the next round of preliminaries, including 57kg Callum Carragher, 60kg Ryan Jenkins, 63kg Cillian Reilly, 70kg Charlie Valbergs, 50kg Grace Conway and 50kg Sarah Murphy. 66kg

Mary McDonagh, at 75kg, is already assured of at least one bronze medal: she begins her competition at the semi-final stage.
