Anto Cacace targets big fights and Bernie celebrations

Anthony Cacace yelled ‘show me the money’ and is ready to cash in after showing Bernie his new title.

The much heralded talent finally got the big fight many felt he deserved, when he challenged Michael Magnesi for the IBO super featherweight world title in Manchester on Saturday night.

And just as many boxing enthusiasts predicted, ‘The Apache’ proved his world-class credentials by claiming victory, signaling a previously undefeated champion on Joyce Parker’s undercard this past Saturday night.

The victory should open the gates for the Belfast fighter in a division that Shakur Stevenson has blown wide open by vacating the WBO and WBC titles.

The 33-year-old could soon be in the frame of a shot at one of the biggest titles and, more importantly, for him, some financial windfall.

“I want to fight for the WBO and the WBC. They were vacated by Stevenson. Give me the next fight,” Cacace told Queensberry after his victory.

“More importantly, I have three kids at home that need to be fed, so get me the money fights. These belts are nice but the money is better so that’s what I want,” he added before declaring that he is ready for any super featherweight in the world.

“Any of them. Doesn’t matter who. Any of them.”

Before Cacace reviews his future options in more depth, he will spend time with his family and visit the now-famous Bernie.

Frank Warren’s wrestler wants to show the lady who looks after him during his Carrickfergus camps his new leash.

“I was away from home for three months, away from the children, away from everything. I have a little woman back in Carrickfergus who takes care of her, Bernie, I love her to death. I stay in a caravan, she takes care of me and she makes everything easy for me. I can’t wait to bring this back and show it to you.”

Reflecting on the fight and victory, Cacace added: “Tough fight, tough fighter, hats off to Michael Magnesi. He left it all in the ring. I am absolutely over the moon to bring [the IBO title] home in Belfast.

“He could hit, but he couldn’t get into me. He was holding him for a long time and when he got close he was tying him up, turning it into an ugly fight, which it had to be. The game plan went perfectly. By any means necessary.”
