Liverpool fans have had a lot to say after Trent Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England squad to face Germany on Monday.
The Reds right-back was one of five players who were omitted from Gareth Southgate’s final squad of the day before the World Cup begins in November.
The England boss has always overlooked Alexander-Arnold, with the likes of Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier ahead of him in the pecking order.
If Alexander-Arnold, a player who has recorded 66 assists in his six years as a Liverpool player, is unable to make the squad at a time when England have not scored in any of their last three games, then the deed seems to be in Wall.
Jurgen Klopp, however, certainly won’t complain about the fact that his most creative player didn’t play a single minute during the international break.
Here’s how Liverpool fans have reacted to England’s snub of Alexander-Arnold:
Return to Kirkby Trent and focus on Brighton on Saturday. That’s what matters. https://t.co/i13nhG2V7s

While it’s good for Liverpool that Trent isn’t playing pointless international games, you have to wonder how Southgate sees a talent like him and willingly leaves him out. He only appeared in 5 of England’s last 31 games, which is just absurd considering the quality of him.

From a selfish point of view, it’s great that Trent is back early, but from his point of view, he’ll be devastated. I hope I go to the World Cup. It’s what players dream of.

Trent was left out of the England squad tonight, it will hurt if he misses the world cup but he has played an unbelievable amount of football at his age, it might be good to miss this tournament and they will be so much more to him. in the future

It doesn’t really make sense to call him Southgate has his favorites and it’s so plain to see

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fikayo Tomori left the England squad against Germany tonight for Gareth Southgate. Harry Maguire, Eric Dier, Conor Coady and Luke Shaw are still on the team.
Favoritism has never been more evident.

Gareth Southgate left Jordan Henderson out of a recent England camp because he “didn’t need to know more about him”. Southgate leaves Trent Alexander-Arnold out of his England squad having played 5 of 31 games in the run up to the World Cup.
I don’t think I’m going to the toilet.

For me it’s going to depend on how well he performs in October for us. If he does come back to the Trent we need him to be either the starting right back or England full back but we’ll see it’s all up to him pic.twitter.com/GJZHe71dRf

The general mood, then, is one of disbelief.
How can Southgate really afford to overlook a creative threat player in Alexander-Arnold, at a time when his side are winless in five games and scoreless in three?
Alexander-Arnold will be disappointed, and he will be even more disappointed if he is not included in England’s World Cup squad.
However, from Liverpool’s perspective, England’s loss can only be our gain.
