Umar Kremlev To Remain President of IBA After Majority Reject New Elections

The International Boxing Association (IBA) Congress today reconfirmed the vote of confidence for President Umar Kremlev at its meeting in Yerevan, Armenia.

“I work for you and not for a third entity. The most important thing is your trust and together we create the future of our young people,” Kremlev said.

“Today we affirm that we are an independent organization. We are not just Olympic boxing, we are IBA boxing and no one can exclude us from anything. We affirm our commitment to continue creating the conditions for our young people to generate income and have steps that they can climb in this noble sport. I practiced boxing and I know what it’s like to train without equipment and having to borrow a pair of gloves. The two most important people in our sport are our athletes and our coaches.”

Congress voted against holding new elections. The delegates cast 106 votes against, which is 75%, 36 votes in favor and 4 abstained from 146 eligible National Federations. In accordance with the decision of the Congress, Kremlev will hold office from him for a period of 4 years.
