Tyler Adams unhappy with USA manager

Leeds United defender Tyler Adams is supposed to be unhappy with US men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter.

The 23-year-old played against Japan, but pundit Herculez Gomez says he is likely furious at the way his coach approached the game.

“They wanted to treat this like a World Cup group stage game,” Gomez said. “Is that the performance you put out?! The mentality was to treat this like a group stage game. Tyler Adams will not be missing. For Tyler Adams, I know his blood is boiling, and that’s what I love about him, but hearing his trainer say ‘they lacked character.’

“I feel like Tyler Adams, in his head he’s thinking that he’s the real captain of this team and the real leader of this team and he’s boiling over the comments. In his head, Tyler Adams doesn’t think he groomed these men at all (Adams thinks it’s up to him as a leader).

“It was the 2017 Open Cup final and I’m calling the game between Kansas and New York. Here’s this guy from Tyler Adams, who was 16 years old, and he’s literally telling his teammates to “pick him up.” He is literally telling his teammates ‘you have to be better.’ Like in his face and while they’re down.

“I asked him about it and he said ‘it’s my responsibility, regardless of age, to prepare these guys. Knowing that they are prepared for the moment because they can’t disappoint me or themselves.’ I remember thinking ‘what is this kid up to?’ But I loved that mentality, so I know he’ll feel slighted by it.”
