Barcelona News: Memphis Depay has revealed that he had offers on the table in the summer transfer market, but chose to stay with the Catalan team.
Depay was linked with a move away from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. Both Chelsea and Juventus were linked with the Dutch international, but a move never occurred.
Depay joined Barcelona in 2021 on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon expired. The 28-year-old made 38 appearances for Barcelona in his first season with the club and scored 13 goals for the Catalan side.
Of those appearances, 28 were in the Spanish top flight, where he scored 12 of his 13 goals in the 21/22 season.
Barcelona news: Depay wants more playing time
Depay has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona, and the playing time he has had at the club so far this season reflects that.
The Dutch attacker has only played 3 games with Barça so far this season. He has a combined playing time of 131 minutes so far this season. Depay has also scored a goal.
Depay has now admitted that he is not satisfied with the playing time he has had at Barca this season. He insisted that he is not enough and that he wants to have more playing time.
Depay also stressed that he is not afraid of the competition and will fight to earn his place in the squad. The Dutchman also revealed that he had offers from other sides, which he chose to turn down to stay at Barcelona.
“I had two starts in the last two weeks in LaLiga. Is not sufficient. I left after 60 minutes but I want more. In the last 25 minutes of the match there are more spaces and there is always an opportunity to take advantage of that”, Depay told Marca.
He added: “I love competition and I don’t run away from it. I love being in Barcelona. Other clubs knocked on my door and I looked at my options. I decided to stay and fight for my chance at Barcelona.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona have made a relatively good start to the 22/23 campaign. They are second in the La Liga points table, behind only Real Madrid. Barcelona have 16 points from their first six matches, having won five of them and shared points in the other.
Meanwhile, Barça began their Champions League campaign with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen, but lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the next.
