Lineker bemoans Liverpool and ‘England’s most creative player’ absence

Gary Lineker wasn’t happy to see England go down in defeat at the hands of Italy, while ‘England’s most creative footballer’ (and current Liverpool player) sat on the bench.

On his Twitter account, the 61-year-old wrote: “A friendly reminder that England’s most creative footballer, @TrentAA, sat on the bench with splinters up his ass…”

Most of the football world does not question the talent that Trent Alexander-Arnold possesses, but the nearly equal measures of disrespect he receives is ridiculous.

Much is made of his allegedly poor defense but what our number 66 can bring to any club far outweighs this and it comes down to finding a way to bring him into your team and utilize his mercurial talents.

There aren’t many players, right backs aside, who can receive a pass, deliver a cross and be as involved in attacks as our team’s Scouser.

This Tweet from the Match of the Day host highlighted how, in a poor game for his nation that showed little creative talent, Gareth Southgate made the decision not to even bring him onto the pitch.

When the West Derby-born defender is producing such mind-boggling passing and assist numbers for Jurgen Klopp’s side, you have to start thinking “what else can I do to get into my national team?”

This will surely make the 23-year-old disillusioned with the current manager and his chances of participating in the World Cup in Qatar.

It is plainly obvious to any true football fan, such as the former Leicester City striker, that our right-back should be put in whatever team he is eligible to play for; it’s just a matter of finding the position that works for him and the team.
