Cecilia Braekhus prepares her return to the ring – World Boxing Association

Norwegian Cecilia Braekhus, former undisputed welterweight champion and one of the great legends of women’s boxing, announced that she will return to the ring at 154 pounds in her quest to win the title again.

The fighter of Colombian origin is historic for everything she has achieved and marked an era in the sport. Now, at 40 years old and after a parenthesis, she feels prepared to give the best of herself, and her great career on her ring supports her.

“I fought for thirteen years as a welterweight with great success and now I’m looking for the biggest fights at 154,” Braekhus said during his training in a media interview.

He also said which of the fighters in the division he would like to fight if given the chance.

“Looking at the top female fighters at 154, I would like to face champions Hannah Rankin, Natasha Jonas or Marie-Eve Dicaire, there is no time to waste and I would happily fight them wherever they want,” she continued.

Braekhus was monarch between 2009 and 2019, a long reign that had more than 20 title defenses. He lost her undefeated record to Jessica McCaskill three years ago and then lost to her again in a rematch in 2021. After a break, he feels ready to return to the ring.
