Wilder On Usyk Possibly Attending His Showdown Against Helenius: “I Hope He Takes Notes”

Oleksandr Usyk quickly surveyed the heavyweight landscape before coming to one broad conclusion: Virtually no one was worth his time.

Just a few short weeks ago, Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) cemented his standing as one of the best fighters in the world with another win over Anthony Joshua. Shortly after sending the British star back to the drawing board, Usyk stated that unless he shared the ring with Tyson Fury, he deemed it unnecessary to continue his career.

However, in the wake of Deontay Wilder’s sudden return to the ring, the former Olympic gold medalist began singing a different tune.

On October 15, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) will take on fringe contender Robert Helenius. In the evening, an intrigued Usyk has already confirmed that he plans to attend. Having learned of the Ukrainian’s plan, Wilder confesses that he is eager to perform against the reigning unified heavyweight champion.

“I heard Usyk will be there,” Wilder told FightHype.com. “I really want to see it. It’s going to be a great fight, it’s going to be a great card overall.”

Long before Usyk made his way into the heavyweight division in 2019, Wilder, in the minds of many, was considered the biggest, brightest and deadliest star in the division. However, following back-to-back stoppage losses at the hands of Fury, Wilder’s time atop the heavyweight mountain came to an end.

In what will be his first appearance since facing Fury, Wilder will be looking to get back into the win column. In the present day, with Usyk seemingly ready, willing and able to give Wilder a shot at his heavyweight titles, the Alabama native is well aware that Usyk will do much more than just play the role of an innocent bystander trying to see a good fashion heavyweight. Scrap.

In all likelihood, the slick-hitting southpaw could be using his time to explore Wilder up close and personal. Flattered by that very possibility, Wilder offers to give Usyk a pen and paper before giving him an incredible show on October 15.

I hope you take notes.
