Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s 45th fight will be the biggest of his professional career as he takes on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol on November 5 in Abu Dhabi, live on DAZN.
Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) is a former 168-pound champion, but his 175-pound streak hasn’t been the most inspiring. To be fair to him, he has said repeatedly, since before Bivol beat Canelo Alvarez earlier this year, that Bivol was his main target.
Now he has the fight, and he sounds very confident that he will win.
“I’m very ready for this,” he said at a press day on Wednesday. “The whole world will see Zurdo Ramírez and all the potential I have.
“At the end of the day, it will just be him, me and the referee inside the ring. No one can help him once he’s in the ring with me.”
Ramirez, 31, will be an underdog against Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs), but there’s intrigue here, too. Ramirez is the bigger man at about 6’2” with a three-inch reach advantage, and it’s not like Bivol has never been let down in a fight, though he still has a clear win.
Some may wonder if Canelo was simply tailor-made for Bivol at 175 pounds, and Zurdo, who is also a southpaw and sometimes rehydrates to very heavyweights in the ring, will be looking to make another impact on the boxing world in November. .
