Henderson ‘done’ with attending football after ‘horrific’ Paris scenes

Jordan Henderson’s role as captain of Liverpool has seen him play in some of the biggest games on the footballing calendar and his family has always been by his side while doing so.

Speaking to The Guardian, our captain described how witnessing the events in Paris before the Champions League final affected his dad: “It was pretty awful, when I spoke to some of my friends, my family and my dad, it was pretty bad. .

“If the fans weren’t respectful, there could be a lot more problems. I think the fans were amazing.

“My dad said after the Champions League final that he was done. As the World Cup approaches… there are a lot of security elements and things going on in Qatar that I’m sure will make people safer.

“But when you’ve had those experiences, sometimes you think, ‘Is it worth the risk?’ We will have to see closer to the time”.

Anyone who was in France for the match against Real Madrid will understand how heartbreaking it was, as the Sunderland-born midfielder was clearly told by members of his family.

It is upsetting that events outside the Stade de France can make fans too afraid to attend major sporting events again, so there needs to be real repercussions for the actions of those responsible.

Hopefully the Qatar World Cup will learn from the failure of the stewards and police in charge of UEFA’s main event and that will make it a safer event for everyone in attendance.

Hopefully soon we will be able to see our patron’s father at matches again, when fans are finally no longer treated like animals at football matches.
