“Leap in quality” – De Ligt aims new dig at Juventus -Juvefc.com

Although Bayern lost their last Bundesliga game before the international break, Matthijs de Ligt will hardly regret his move to Munich.

That’s because the Dutchman has managed to escape from a dilapidated team as Juve’s results at the start of the current campaign show.

For his part, the 23-year-old has not been subtle in his comments towards his former employers. For example, he mentioned on more than one occasion how the German champions adopt a higher work ethic than the one he witnessed in Turin.

The centre-back has now led a fresh dig at Juventus, explaining how he regards his transfer to Bayern as a quality leap, while also questioning the Old Lady’s Champions League ambitions.

“I had a great time at Juventus, but I felt that the time had come for a new challenge,” said the Dutch international in an interview with NOS via ilbianconero.

“Juve is an excellent team, but for me, joining Bayern was another leap in quality.

“I think Bayern have the squad and the ambition to win the Champions League. At Juve I felt it less”.

Ironically, Juventus bought De Ligt in 2019 and the Champions League was the main goal at the time. But the club’s dire financial situation, coupled with disappointing results on the pitch, forced a change of plans.

The defender may be adding salt to the wound with his words, but his accuracy can hardly be denied.
