Diario SPORT says that the Barcelona coach has said that the former Ajax star is the best substitute for Sergio Busquets.
At the moment, Busquets is Barcelona’s only option for the defensive midfield position. The veteran has more experience and peace of mind than anyone.
But at 34, he’s not as physically strong as he used to be, so Xavi has to pick the rotation.
Busquets remained on the bench for the games against Elche and Viktoria Plzen. Earlier in the season, he was suspended for the game against Real Sociedad.
In all three games, Xavi liked De Jong more than the other options for the number five spot.

The Barcelona manager seems to hold the Dutchman in high regard for his technique and his ability to control the pace of play.
Pedri and Gavi’s rapid rise to fame can also be attributed to de Jong having to play at number five.
The two youngsters have been in great form lately and have done a great job in the midfield position. This has kept De Jong out of the team.
