Although Newcastle United managed to save a point from Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, according to journalist Lee Ryder, the Magpies were lucky not to have sent off a man.
Ryder claims midfielder Joelinton was lucky to avoid seeing a red card after catching rival attacker Marcus Tavernier with a ‘missing boot’.
Speaking about the incident, which was not picked up by referee Craig Pawson or VAR, Ryder said: “When Joelinton went down in the first half and won a free kick, no one thought much of it at first. But replays on television showed that the Brazilian had hit Marcus Tavernier with a stray boot.

“Fortunately for Newcastle, VAR didn’t pick it up, but if it had, he would have gone to a bathroom early. Perhaps given the amount of rotten arbitration previously, this was part of the leveling process that we’re told happens over a season.
“But Joelinton will admit he got lucky against the Cherries.”
