Liverpool head into September international break in 8th place – Liverpool FC

After seven Premier League games went as planned this weekend, the latest results leave Liverpool in eighth place ahead of the international break in September.

Liverpool are in the midst of a 17-day gap between games after Sunday’s game with Chelsea was postponed.

They have not played a Premier League game since the Merseyside derby on September 4, and last weekend’s scheduled meeting with Wolves was also cancelled, days after the Queen’s death.

There were seven league games that went ahead as normal this weekend, and the results saw Jurgen Klopp’s side drop one place to eighth in the table.

Fulham were the team to get past the Reds, producing an impressive second-half comeback to see off Nottingam Forest on Friday night.

Arsenal remain top, after a 3-0 win against Brentford on Sunday afternoon, while Man City are a point behind, with Erling Haaland on the goals once again as they beat Wolves on Saturday.

Close behind are Tottenham, who beat a dismal Leicester side by six strokes, with Brendan Rodgers surely now in grave danger of losing his job.

There was also a first win of the season for Everton, who overcame West Ham thanks to a Neal Maupay goal on Sunday afternoon.

Certainly not the table Liverpool fans were hoping for heading into the first international break of the season.

An extensive injury list hasn’t helped, and Jurgen Klopp hopes he has more of his squad to call when his squad reunites in October.

There was a lot of optimism after the Community Shield win against Man City, but the Reds only managed to win two of their first six games.

However, they go into the break in better spirits than a week ago, with a performance in the 2-1 win over Ajax much closer to the standards we expect from Klopp’s men.
