Arthur Melo handed the first start

Liverpool News: Liverpool’s most recent arrival, Arthur Melo, has finally gotten his first start for a Liverpool team.

A graduate of the Gremio academy, Arthur Melo began his senior team career with the Brazilian club. After establishing himself in the Gremio setup, the midfielder played a pivotal role in Gremio’s victory in the Copa Libertadores.

Arthur’s consistent performances with Gremio helped him land many lavish contracts. However, he decided to join the Spanish giants Barcelona. Despite having a good start to his career at Barca, he failed to develop his potential and was sold to Juventus in 2020.

In the following two years, Arthur spent time at Turin, but his performances were never consistent enough to make him a key player in the team.

Liverpool News: Arthur Melo handed over the first starter

Brazilian midfielder Arthur made his first appearance as a starter for a Liverpool team when he featured for Liverpool Under-21s in their last away game against Leicester City in Premier League 2.

Arthur played the full 90 minutes and helped the Reds to a 1–0 win over Leicester. Notably, this was Arthur’s first start in 129 days.

Arthur arrived in Liverpool on deadline day when the Reds decided to pay a £3.9m loan fee to acquire the midfield.

It was previously reported that Arthur has failed to impress German coach Jurgen Klopp since then.

The report further stated that Liverpool are considering terminating his contract in the January window and are already looking for a replacement.

However, Arthur has now stopped all criticism by playing the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s victory. The Brazilian is now trying to get in the best shape of himself as he wants to cement his place in the Liverpool line-up.

Arthur’s performance helped Liverpool dominate the ball against Leicester as they held around 57 per cent of possession. On top of that, his performance makes it clear that Arthur is a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s setup.

Speaking about Arthur’s performance, Liverpool under-21 manager Barry Lewtas praised him. Barry said that Arthur is an elite player and can be an example for young players.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Arthur will now continue to work at the AXA Training Center and there are no plans to send him out in January.

Whats Next?

Liverpool had a rocky start to their campaign. They are currently going through an injury crisis as most of their midfielders have suffered injuries at some point in the season. Liverpool’s next game against Chelsea has already been postponed due to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

After this, there is a long gap in the International window. Liverpool will play their next match against Brighton & Hove Albion. Before that, Klopp will surely want Arthur to be fully fit, which can give his stagnant midfield a boost.
