18-year-old raves about defender’s ‘ridiculous’ passing in Liverpool training

Liverpool have a world-class squad of players and one of the club’s younger members has shared his adoration for the passing ability of one of the older players.

In an interview with the Liverpool Echo, James Balagizi praised his team-mates: “It’s very difficult to pass Virgil van Dijk, his passing range is just ridiculous. Like the passes from him, how is he able to get them in the money every time?

“It’s unbelievable. I’m just a normal kid who loves football and now I’m here with all these world-class superstars, it’s so unreal.

“But when you’re there you just have to compete to the best of your ability. Of course there is still that element of idolatry, I am a football fan as well as a footballer.

When some see a young Red being impressed by a defender’s pass, most would assume Trent Alexander-Arnold would be the name under discussion.

However, listening to Virgil van Dijk is also no surprise and his long, wide passes to Mo Salah are a very important part of our game.

There is often a lot of talk about the ease with which the Egyptian king can control the balls that come from our central midfielder, which is also true, but it is also important to mention the constant precision of the deliveries.

Spending the current season on loan in League Two with Crawley Town, the Manchester-born midfielder hopes he can return to Merseyside and be able to call these ‘world-class superstars’ his team-mates on the pitch too.

The 18-year-old certainly has a star-studded dressing room to learn from when he returns and hopefully he can add to his tally of three goals and one assist in 10 games this campaign, returning to the Reds with a real spring in his step.
