‘It can still happen’ – Connor Coyle has no Chris Eubank Jr regrets

Connor Coyle [16(7)-0] he still believes a fight with Chris Eubank Jr can happen and has no regrets about previously turning down a fight on short notice with the renowned Briton.

Coyle was offered the chance to trade leathers with the high-profile son of former world champion Chris Eubank in October last year, but with the offer coming just six days before the proposed fight, he decided against it.

Some suggested the Derry boxer was in no position to turn down such a big opportunity, especially at a time when the pandemic was taking a toll on the careers of most boxers.

However, the middleweight team was proven right, as he has since secured the NABA middleweight title and a top 10 ranking in the world with the WBA.

‘El Niño’, who fights with Silverio Ortiz [37(18)-31(7)] at the Alessi Gym in Tampa, Florida tonight, you now have options and can step up on your own terms.

In fact, he outboxed a durable Mexican tonight and hopes to announce a ‘big’ fight in the UK very soon.

However, he still has his hopes up for Eubank Jr and would love the opportunity to fight the English fighter, who then fights Conor Benn in a massively lucrative battle of sons of world champions.

“I don’t regret not fighting Eubank Jr at the time of the offer as it was only a 6 day notice,” he tells Irish-boxing.com.

“It just wasn’t feasible. It was impossible for me at the time to take that fight, but I feel like that fight can still happen. Now that I have my name in that combination, it’s possible and when I start beating these high-profile fighters, the big fights will keep coming.”
