Police issue arrest warrant for Ex-Celtic star Anthony Stokes

An arrest warrant has been issued for 34-year-old striker Anthony Stokes for failing to appear in court.

Stokes admitted to harassing and sending abusive messages to his ex-girlfriend in 2019.

He did not appear at the Hamilton Sheriff’s Court this morning and did not respond to calls from social workers.

Capped 9 times by Ireland, Stokes has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen said: “These are post-conviction cases. He has not been answering social work calls and I will issue a warrant for his arrest.”

Stokes was arrested in July by police in Northern Ireland. He missed a sentencing hearing last month after testing positive for COVID-19. He was ordered to appear in court on Friday.

After his ex-girlfriend filed a complaint against Stokes, he admitted to sending her 100 text messages a day and labeling her “shit,” “shit” and a “slut.” He once showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s house and demanded to know her whereabouts.

Sheriff Allan McKay added: “He pleaded guilty and was released on bail and has now left the country in violation of bail.

“He is not here, in violation of his bail conditions, and I am not entirely sure that he will return unless some kind of authority requires him to, so I am issuing a warrant for his arrest. ”
