Sergiño Dest hopes to stay at AC Milan beyond this campaign.

The defending Scudetto champions brought in the US international on loan from Barcelona. However, Milan have an option to buy, which makes the transfer permanent.

“There is a purchase option in the contract between AC Milan and Barcelona, so I will do my best here as I hope Milan will sign me to a permanent contract,” Dest said on Friday according to Fabrizio Romano. “I am very happy here and I will give 100% to stay.”

“I will give my best and at the end of the season we will see if the club wants me or not. The only thing I can do is give my best.”

Sergiño Dest and AC Milan, do they fit together well?

Dest’s comments are interesting because he has yet to appear in the league since arriving in Italy. The USMNT defender’s only minutes for Milan have been two late substitution appearances in the Champions League. Barca mainly allowed Dest to leave the club to allow the player regular time on the pitch. They finally signed former Arsenal defender Héctor Bellerin for free.

However, Dest ultimately chose Milan over other options. He also stated on Friday that Serie A suits his style perfectly. “I think this league will help me be more complete,” Dest proclaimed.

“Italy is known for their good defense and it’s something I can work on. It’s a different league, but I feel like I need to unleash my full potential. I feel like I can learn a lot and I can work on my defensive skills here.”

The USMNT star also praised the tactics of head coach Stefano Pioli. “Pioli plays with full-backs that go forward and for me he is perfect. I need to stay focused and make sure I can help the team win with my skills. This system can be useful for me.”

With the World Cup almost two months away, Dest will be looking to start getting some solid playing time soon. USMNT fans are also hoping that one of their biggest players can be in full swing come November.
