DAZN’s Grisham on calling out Canelo-Golovkin: “I’m excited!”
Published in September 16, 2022
What will happen on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas when Canelo Alvarez battles Gennadiy Golovkin for the third time and this time for the undisputed super middleweight titles? That remains to be seen. However, for DAZN broadcaster Todd Grisham, he is eager for the first bell to ring.
This will be Canelo’s fifth fight that Grisham has worked for DAZN alongside Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora and Chris Mannix in the last two years. This, while Álvarez battles his rival Triple G on the DAZN pay-per-view. And, Grisham always looks forward to these kinds of events,
Coming up Saturday night in Vegas is arguably the biggest fight of the year #CaneloGGG3 and my boy @Grishamfight calls him up for @DAZNBoxing to HEAR what he says he thinks it will be in the arena etc. @paulsen_smw @announcerskeds @TheLatinSnake_

“I’m AMPED, as you can see,” Grisham told us as part of our Big Fight weekend preview coverage. “As you can see in the boxing world, you never seem to get these fights… This is a fight the fans have been clamoring for.
I’m glad it’s not past its expiration date. Although it was close. And, as you can see from the odds, a lot of people think Canelo will take care of business.”
It’s not all positive things for King Alvarez (57-2-2) at 168 pounds right now. This after he suffered his second professional loss, and first in 9 years, when Russian WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol outpointed him by a 12-round decision in Las Vegas in May. Canelo exercised his rematch clause to fight Bivol again, but opted to stick with the original plan of fighting GGG in September after Bivol.
This is not a small part because the fight against Golovkin is much more lucrative for all involved, since GGG is considered one of the 2-3 best middleweight champions of all time. And, he and Canelo fought two dramatic fights a year apart, the first being declared a draw and Alvarez earning the second victory by narrow decision.
And, Golovkin (42-1-1) bounced back from that loss to Alvarez to win the IBF and WBA 160-pound world titles, including his April TKO victory over Ryota Murata in Japan. However, he will move up to fight Alvarez at super middleweight for all belts in September.
Still, it’s “Mexican Independence Day Weekend” and Las Vegas will be packed by the time we get to Saturday night.
And Grisham and his colleagues will bring it to the US PPV audience via DAZN.
