Newcastle journalist details Eddie Howe’s contract extension

Speaking for the Pod on Tyne podcast, journalist George Culkin reveals how Newcastle owners were keen to offer Eddie Howe a contract extension as soon as they were safe in the relegation battle.

Howe signed a new long-term deal just a few weeks ago during the summer transfer window which had Newcastle fans excited.

Caulkin said: “Speak in this interview [with The Athletic] about his contract and the new contract that he signed at the start of the season, and I thought that was interesting and also quite important in terms of this conversation because he says that when he came in basically the only thing he was thinking about was keeping Newcastle up.

“The future can wait, as he said then, and that he had had a conversation with the owners that was along the lines of, ‘Do that, and then we’ll talk about the future.’

“So as soon as Newcastle was safe they started the talk about a contract, he signed that extended deal now.
