Liverpool and Newcastle coaches banned following touchline incident

The managers of Liverpool and Newcastle United have been suspended following the altercation on the touchline that followed Fabio Carvalho’s goal during the match between the two teams last month.

The Reds scored an injury-time winner against the Magpies, sparking wild scenes in the home dugout and causing a bottle to be thrown from the visitors’ bench in the direction of Jurgen Klopp and his staff.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg and Newcastle manager Daniel Hodges admitted their behavior after the Anfield clash.

Achterberg, who is popular with Reds fans for his sideline antics, was seen raising two fingers at Eddie Howe and his backroom staff during the incident.

The FA issued the following statement earlier today (via talkSPORT):

“The managers of Liverpool FC and Newcastle United FC have been disciplined, fined and warned for breaching FA Rule E3 during their Premier League match on Wednesday 31 August 2022,” the FA wrote.

“John Achterberg and Daniel Hodges have admitted that their behavior during the 98th minute was inappropriate, and the Liverpool FC manager has also accepted that he used abusive and insulting gestures.

“An independent regulatory commission has fined the managers of Liverpool FC and Newcastle United FC £7,000 and £6,000 respectively, banned them from playing on the touchline during a match and warned them about their future conduct.”

When you win all three points in such a dramatic way, it will always lead to emotions running high.

Achterberg has a lot of passion for the game and for the club and while we don’t condone his actions, it’s great to see how much the win meant to the Dutchman.

The victory was made a little sweeter by the painful amount of lost time Newcastle took to hold on to a point.

Nick Pope took as much time as he could with his goal kicks and it was hard to keep track of how many times Joelinton cramped up.

In the end, however, it was Liverpool and Carvalho who had the last laugh as we earned a 2-1 win.
