Liverpool fans confused as ’40-50′ Ajax fans were spotted celebrating

Ajax fans traveled to Liverpool and represented their club very well, with their corner of the Anfield Road End singing songs at the top of their lungs throughout the night.

However, there was much confusion inside the stadium once Mohammed Kudus scored the equalizing goal that night.

There was a sizeable group of Dutch supporters in the middle of the lower level of the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and this is how some of the supporters present remembered the event:

Writing as a fan who was in attendance on the night, the sheer number of celebrating fans was (understandably) met with animosity from nearby home fans.

This led to a huge increase in the presence of butlers and police in the area around them, because the Amsterdam supporters were far from reserved in their celebrations.

Whether the tickets were hospitality offered through UEFA partners, tickets our fans sold to theirs or fans bought legitimately from their own club, it seems like it was bound to cause trouble by seating them amongst our supporters.

Without segregation and no police presence (before the goal and in the second half), one can only imagine the scenes that would have followed a late winner for the away team, rather than ourselves.

It seemed like it all ended in relatively good spirits, but it wasn’t because of the good work of anyone in charge inside the stadium, there are plenty of other teams and games where these scenes could have gotten a lot nastier.
