Canelo Alvarez Says He’s “more Dangerous” After Loss To Bivol

By Adam Baskin: Canelo Alvarez feels he is “more dangerous” after losing to Dmitry Bivol last May and will use the things he learned from that fight to defeat Gennadiy Golovkin on Saturday.

As long as the 40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) doesn’t throw combinations and does a poor job of blocking Canelo’s punches, as was the case in the first two fights, then the Mexican star should win.

Canelo doesn’t go into detail about why he lost to WBA 175-pound champion Bivol, other than noting that he got “tired” during the fight.

No one would disagree with Canelo on that point, as he looked fatigued from the third round.

Bivol expertly blocked virtually every punch Canelo threw, always responding with three-punch and five-punch combinations that seemed to drain the Mexican star’s energy.

The pro-Canelo crowd cheered every punch he threw despite Bivol blocking them on the arms and gloves.

In addition, Bivol set a fast pace with the pressure he put on Canelo in each round, without letting him rest. When Canelo tried to rest on the ropes, Bivol peppered him with combinations to the head. Canelo didn’t block shots and it looked bad.

“I learned a lot from that loss, and you always learn from winning and losing as well,” Canelo Alvarez told Secondsout of his loss to Dmitry Bivol.

From the looks of Canelo, it’s doubtful he can make the necessary changes to his game to improve on what he learned from his loss to Bivol.

Fortunately for Canelo, he won’t be fighting Bivol on Saturday, so he won’t have to worry about getting strafed for his combinations. Golovkin always shoots single shots, so Canelo should have no problem dealing with his one-dimensional offense.

“What I need to tell you is that I am more dangerous than ever and I am ready to return. I saw it two or three times, and I got tired, that’s all. That’s why I lost,” Canelo said of his loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol last May.

“Yes, staff. This fight is personal to me because like I said before, he pretends to be a good guy here and talks a lot of shit behind the scenes. But when he’s in front of people or on camera, he pretends to be a nice guy.
