Thiago lit up Anfield in the win over Ajax, showing just what Liverpool have been missing in his absence as he pulled the strings and kept his team going at all times.
Is there any way we can have a clone or two of Thiago?
The Spaniard made his first start since opening day at Fulham on Tuesday, much to the delight and relief of the Reds as Liverpool needed to get back to normal.
With an 89 per cent passing success rate, 10 recoveries, 100 per cent accuracy from the long ball, 13 passes into the final third and countless antics and crowd cheering, Thiago’s night was outstanding.
The 31-year-old gave a master class throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch and it was hard for Anfield’s side to look away from the magic he unleashed on and off the ball.
Thiago is a delight to watch in action and it’s no surprise that his performance on Tuesday has fans still praising him.
Thiago Alcantara absolutely revels in that, and why wouldn’t he?
what performance?? pic.twitter.com/Z8biVb2XX6

By the way, that Thiago performance? That is real tangible leadership. Not all that ideological bulldog spirit shit. He came into that starting XI and lifted everyone around him on a team that lacked confidence during a losing streak. Elite

Apart from Gerrard, he is the best Liverpool midfielder I have ever seen. Genuine joy to see.
It’s a shame we didn’t sign him five years earlier and he can’t stay fit for long periods. https://t.co/Idmev2Bh6x

I would say that Thiago is the most important player in Liverpool at the moment. Completely different team when he is on the field. The end result of this season will have a lot to do with how long you stay fit.

Incredible player. How could Souness train at the highest level and say that Thiago has defensive problems? Others also for The Complete Midfielder case https://t.co/tXlxceB0rc

Can you clone people yet, @elonmusk?
Asking about Thiago…..

We all know that Thiago brings great quality on the ball with his vision, technique and decision-making, but it was both his aggressiveness and his willingness to get bogged down that stood out tonight. I love him.

Am I exaggerating if I say that Thiago Alcântara is up there with one of the best midfielders we have seen at Liverpool? pic.twitter.com/NGtBZ7V4AU

A blessing and a curse. If Thiago played the whole season we would be unstoppable. https://t.co/o16SmGT34m

Thiago makes what he does look easy and Liverpool certainly look better with him in the XI, the task, as it has always been, is to keep him fit so he can be in the squad as often as possible.
Composure, awareness and a willingness to take calculated risks and open up the pitch were essential against Ajax and, in Thiago’s absence, the Reds don’t have a similar profile to reflect his qualities.
Having now returned from injury, he could see himself called up to the Spain squad this month, but Liverpool fans can hope he can enjoy a 17-day break before domestic action returns.
