Liverpool 2-1 Ajax: Player Ratings – What the media and statistics say – Liverpool FC

Several Liverpool players stood out in the vital 2-1 win at home to Ajax in the Champions League, including goalscorer Joel Matip.

The Reds secured a much-needed win at Anfield on Tuesday night as they got their European campaign underway.

Mohamed Salah and Mohammed Kudus exchanged goals in an entertaining first half, before Matip headed in the winner against Kop in the dying minutes.

Here we compare our players’ ratings with those of Liverpool Echo, WhoScored, FotMob and This Is Anfield readers.

It was Matip (8.2) who got the highest overall rating, no doubt helped by his match-winning moment.

The center back triumphantly returned to the side to the detriment of Joe Gómez, making a consummate performance.

Ian Doyle of Echo stated that Matip was “increasingly involved in the attack” as the game progressed, also describing his display as “serene”.

TIA’s Henry Jackson said “it’s good to have him back” as the 31-year-old is such an influential member of Liverpool’s defence.

In joint second place were Kostas Tsimikas (7.9) and Thiago (7.9), who made it to Napoli’s nightmare team.

Tsimikas was an impressive replacement for the injured Andy Robertson, and FotMob selected him as the Reds’ best player noting that he made five recoveries.

Meanwhile, Thiago was a “pleasure to watch,” according to Jackson. Doyle felt that the midfielder’s “footwork, passing and drive underpinned the Reds’ performance”.

In terms of the worst player of the night, it was actually Harvey Elliott (6.3) who scored the lowest quite harshly.

Frustratingly, Liverpool now have 17 days without a game, with the weekend’s clash at Chelsea postponed and followed by an international break.

The next match will be at Brighton’s home on October 1.
