Despite continued criticism of the Englishman, Rio Ferdinand was quick to come to the ex-Sunderland star’s defense on BT Sport after Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Ajax, stressing his importance in providing protection to our exposed right flank.
It’s telling that we’ve struggled a bit on the right side of the field in the skipper’s absence, though that might be a bit of a harsh assessment given how notable Harvey Elliott’s contributions have been going forward.
