Chris Eubank claims his son’s own 157lb limit puts life in danger

Chris Eubank has expressed his dismay at plans to force his son Chris Eubank Jr. to gain 157 pounds for a fight with Conor Benn.

The former world champion made the claims when Eubank stated he wanted the planned Oct. 8 fight scrapped.

Eubank worries about losing another of his children after Seb Eubank’s death shocked the family.

However, some took to social media to claim that Eubank was using that tragedy as an excuse for a surprising turn of events.

As things stand at the moment, the fight is unaffected until an official announcement is made by those accused of Eubank jeopardizing Jr. with the catchweight deal.

So far, Eubank has made only one statement regarding the death of rapper Pnb Rock. Benn commented on the matter by joking that Eubank Jr. has been “punished” by his father.

No doubt more will be revealed in the coming hours, especially given that Eubank Jr. signed on to make weight and was photographed eating KFC weeks before the fight.

When the pair confirmed the legacy fight, Benn’s trainer described how the 157-pound weight stipulation came about in the first place.

“I think this fight was always lined up to happen, even from the first day Conor Benn put on the gloves,” Sims said.

“That has always been talked about. As Conor said, it’s a fight for the British public. It’s probably the biggest fight of this decade or this generation.

“Obviously, I wanted to see the fight happen. I believe in Conor Benn. He is so diligent in training him and knowing the boxing game from him.

“I think the weight of 157 is what Chris Eubank’s team asked for. We agreed on that. I think he’ll be strong at that weight, Conor Benn.

“He trains with all the world-class middleweights and super middleweights in my gym day in and day out.

“When he fights these days, I certainly don’t put him up to welterweights to train. I always go with middleweights for sparring.

“The welterweights can’t take it. I know what it’s made of. I know what he can bring to the table.”

Eubank Jr vs Benn is in doubt

Whether Benn can bring that to the table at one of Britain’s fastest-selling events of 2022 remains under threat.

Mind games are a staple of these fights, especially in the UK, but there seems to be some degree of regret regarding the starting weight contracted.
