Liverpool news: With Andy Robertson now facing a spell on the sidelines, the Reds have suffered another devastating injury hit as their season heads towards disaster.
Compared to the previous season, when they lost just four of 63 games, the Reds have won just two of their first seven games this year.
Five midfielders have already been ruled out through injuries for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they have struggled miserably, culminating in their humiliating loss to Napoli in Italy.
At various stages during a difficult season, the Liverpool manager has lost the likes of Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, captain Jordan Henderson and Fabio Carvalho, as well as the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip.
Liverpool News: More problems for Jurgen Klopp
And the most recent blow came after Liverpool’s embarrassing defeat in Naples. Robertson, who has played a major role in the club’s trophy-laden history under Klopp, suffered an injury. Klopp will discuss this injury at his European press conference on Monday afternoon.
Given the importance of the game and the recent string of disappointing results, the Liverpool manager has been dealt a serious blow. Robertson will miss the now massive Champions League showdown with Ajax on Tuesday night.
Medical staff do not consider the injury to be particularly serious. However, it’s bad enough that the Scotland captain is a doubt for the weekend’s game against Chelsea.
Robertson’s initial struggle
After a demanding year, Robertson seemed to struggle at the start of the new season. It is speculated that this may be due to an injury he sustained when he was playing for Scotland against Ireland in the Nations League in June.
The defender continued to compete for his nation after defeat in the Champions League final in Paris. However, he was later forced to withdraw from the following match against Armenia due to injury.
After being substituted in each of his previous four appearances before the trip to Goodison Park, Klopp unexpectedly rested Robertson for the Merseyside derby.
Kostas Tskimikas, a Greek international defender, will start in place of left-back against Ajax in what Klopp sees as a crucial matchup for Liverpool.
If Liverpool lose points against Ajax, it may hamper their chances of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.
