Chelsea vs. Liverpool POSTPONED due to Queen’s funeral – Liverpool FC

Liverpool will not play in the Premier League again until October 1, with their trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea now postponed due to the Queen’s funeral.

The Reds were due to travel to west London for a high-profile clash on Sunday, which would have marked their return to league action after the postponement of the game with Wolves.

But now that the Queen’s state funeral will be held in the city the following day, Monday 19 September, the decision has been made to postpone it to a later date.

A statement from the Premier League has confirmed that two games, Chelsea vs. Liverpool and Man United vs. Leeds, are postponed due to lack of police availability. Brighton vs. Crystal Place has already been postponed due to a planned rail strike that will no longer take place.

The other seven matches will be played as scheduled.

A statement from the Premier League says:

After extensive consultation with the clubs, the police, local security advisory groups and other relevant authorities, there was no option but to postpone all three matches.

The Premier League would like to thank the UK Football Police Unit and other police forces across the country, as well as our broadcast partners, for their support during this process, and will continue to be in contact with them ahead of the weekend. .

For matches played during the National Mourning period, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums.

New dates for the postponed matches will be announced in due course.

With a second successive Premier League match now postponed and the international break immediately following, Liverpool will not play another league game until next month.

That will be Brighton’s visit on October 1, with clubs and organizers now forced to find new dates for Wolves and Chelsea draws.

It can be difficult, as the next available weekday slot will be January 17/18 and then February 7/8, more than four months after the originally planned dates.

Liverpool will go 17 days without playing after Tuesday’s match with Ajax.
