Not Liverpool as Romano confirms ‘only club interested’ in Moises Caicedo

Liverpool were linked with a host of midfielders this summer and one of them was Moises Caicedo, but Fabrizio Romano has provided an interesting update on the midfielder.

Writing for CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist said: “There has been a lot of speculation about Moises Caicedo and the top clubs in the Premier League, and there was talk of heightened interest in January, so I thought I’d give my understanding of his situation.

“The only club interested this summer was Manchester United. They asked about Caicedo as a possible option before signing Casemiro, who was the real and main priority.

“I’m not sure there will be a price on the player in January as Brighton called him untouchable for the whole of August.”

It was previously reported that the Reds have a ‘promise’ from the Seagulls that we can take priority in any future negotiations for the Ecuadorian, after the World Cup.

However, here it seems that Manchester United came the closest to signing the midfielder last summer.

However, now that Erik ten Hag’s side have signed Casemiro, this will likely rule out any future negotiations they may have for the 20-year-old.

With Graham Potter and much of his staff moving to Chelsea, previous deals and discussions may no longer hold with the club.

The former Beerschot borrower is still untested in the Premier League so this space in time may also give us more opportunities to see if he will be the right fit for us.

It’s going to be a strange few months around the World Cup in Qatar and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping we’ll be in better shape come the end of the competition.

However, if this is a deal we need to complete and in the winter, it looks like we could be the team that gets priority.
