Max Allegri praises match official despite his dismissal -Juvefc.com

While talking about refereeing errors isn’t exactly our cup of tea, the performances of match official Matteo Marcenaro and those operating in the VAR room dominate the headlines after the intense affair between Juventus and Salernitana.

The visitors had a surprising 2-0 halftime lead, but the Old Lady managed to get back into the game thanks to Gleison Bremer’s header and Leonardo Bonucci’s rebound in the 93rd minute.

A minute later, Arkadiusz Milik thought he had scored the dramatic winner, but VAR had other plans, calling in the referee to review the goal, before he decided to rule it out for a very dubious call on Bonucci, to say the least.

A melee ensued, resulting in four red cards, with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri one of the referee’s casualties.

However, the strategist bears a grudge towards the match official, and instead chooses to praise his performance.

“The referee was good at making important decisions in tense moments,” Allegri said in his post-match comments via Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I never talk about referees. It is a fact that a goal has been disallowed, for better or for worse. I would like to see the photo because Candreva is under the flag. You can’t see it in the photos we were given.

“But you have to leave the referees alone, the protagonists are the players. We have 10 or 20 very good referees in the league.”
