Rangers and Napoli’s Champions League game is postponed by one day

Liverpool are still waiting for it to be confirmed if our game against Ajax will be played, but there have been changes for the match between Rangers and Napoli, in the same group.

As reported on the Napoli website: ‘The Champions League match between Rangers and Napoli, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday 13th September in Glasgow, has been postponed and will take place on Wednesday 14th September at 9:00 p.m. 00 EST.

“The decision to reschedule the match follows the severe limitations of the UK police force and the ongoing events surrounding the period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

UEFA has also announced that away fans will not be allowed to attend the match. SSC Napoli will refund fans who have already purchased tickets, arrangements for which will be communicated at a later date.

“UEFA and the club urge Napoli fans not to travel to the scheduled match, with or without tickets, and note that Rangers fans will not attend the second leg in Naples, scheduled for October 26.”

It’s an interesting decision not to let the fans go and delay the game one day, all due to the ongoing events in Britain, following the Queen’s death.

This decision and announcement makes it even more peculiar that we have not yet had confirmation of what will happen to our game this week.

In the case of the postponement of the Premier League match with Wolves, the announcement was made so late that many supporters lost money on travel and accommodation, which could not be repaid.

We can only hope that a decision is made quickly and the game can go ahead, if the concerns are about safety then it needs to be taken seriously, but we cannot cancel another match.

Next weekend’s matches are yet to be confirmed as well, with the schedule heavily disrupted but with very little time to accommodate the rearranged fixtures on the schedule.

The lack of an update is possibly good news, but hopefully we can confirm all of this and see our match played out quickly.
