England football news: Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are set to return to the national team, according to reports.
Manager Gareth Southgate had dropped both Rashford and Sancho from his previous England squad due to the duo’s rather disappointing performances for Man Utd last season.
Both Rashford and Sancho have not featured in the England squad in 2022. Sancho has not made the squad since October 2021 and Rashford since November 2021.
But, according to the Daily Mail, both players are set to return to England international duty.
The Daily Mail reports that both Sancho and Rashford “should be welcomed when Southgate announces the England squad for their forthcoming UEFA Nations League matches”.
England face Italy and Germany in their next two UEFA Nations League group stage games. England take on Italy on September 24 at 00:15 Indian Standard Time and Germany on September 27 at 00:15 Indian Standard Time.
The Three Lions are winless this time in the Nations League and sit bottom of League A Group 3. England have played four games and have lost two of them and drawn the other two. They have two points from four games.
The upcoming international break will also be the last before Southgate decides his England squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, both Sancho and Rashford have looked back on their prime this season. Both players have prominent roles under Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho has already scored two goals for Man Utd in seven appearances so far this season. His first goal came in Man Utd’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League. Sancho scored Man Utd’s first goal in that match. Sancho’s second goal came in Man Utd’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Rashford has scored three goals and provided two assists for Man Utd so far this season. He scored Man Utd’s second in their victory over Liverpool. He too bagged a brace as Man Utd inflicted a 3-1 defeat on league leaders Arsenal in the English top flight.
Meanwhile, Man Utd will face FC Sheriff in the Europa League group stage and Leeds United in the Premier League before the international break.
