Gilberto Ramirez: Me and Canelo Can Put On a Good Show – I Want To Fight The Best

Top light heavyweight contender Gilberto Ramirez is not satisfied with recent statements from Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who has remained adamant in his position that he does not want to fight any Mexican opponent.

Ramirez will return in November in Abu Dhabi, when he challenges WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in a mandatory fight.

Next Saturday, Canelo will step into the ring to defend his undisputed super middleweight championship in a trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Canelo had tried to topple Bivol in May, but was outpointed in twelve rounds and suffered the first loss of his career since 2013.

Ramirez has vowed to avenge Canelo’s loss by bringing the world title back to Mexico.

At the same time, he was hoping that a win over Bivol would lead to a showdown with Canelo.

The Mexican superstar is only interested in facing Bivol in a rematch, if Bivol beats Ramirez.

The last time Canelo faced a Mexican opponent was in 2017, when he earned a decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Ramirez firmly believes that the best should always want to fight the best, which in turn should motivate Canelo to fight him.

“The best has to fight the best. I’m a little sad [by Canelo’s statements]because he doesn’t want to fight Mexicans, but he has his reasons,” Ramírez told TV Boxeo.

“I want to fight the best, he is the best in his division, and I think we can put on a good show for all the people. Like Erik Morales did with [Marco Antonio] Barrera or how Julio César Chávez did with [Oscar] De la Hoya, but I think he has his own strategy [for the future].”
