Liverpool donate matchday food to local charities after Wolves postponement – Liverpool FC

With the Wolves visit postponed following the Queen’s death, Liverpool have moved to prevent food waste by donating fresh produce to local charities.

The decision to postpone this weekend’s round of matches across the English football pyramid, from the Premier League to grassroots football, has been met with bewilderment.

Considered a mark of respect to the late monarch, who passed away on Thursday, it has been widely criticized as unnecessary and detrimental to communities during the cost of living crisis.

One of the main concerns was food waste on match days, with clubs preparing for thousands of fans to attend and buy meals before and during matches.

Liverpool are among the clubs that have moved to combat this by donating thousands of pounds worth of merchandise to local causes, a spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

“Liverpool managed to pause much of the food preparation ahead of Saturday’s game against Wolves,” the club told the Liverpool Echo.

“The fresh food that was prepared was donated to the local community from 9am on Friday morning and will continue throughout the day on Saturday.

“This includes 30 carts of fresh sandwiches.

“Donations have gone to Whitechapel Center for the Homeless, Victory Outreach Youth Hostel, L30 Community Centre, two schools in Anfield, Fans Supporting Foodbanks and L6 Community Centre.”

It is a welcome move by the club, serving as a positive development from a negative situation, and they are not the only Premier League side to have done so.

It was also confirmed that Man City and Crystal Palace donated match-day food, while City have pledged to pay casual workers who were required to be on duty for the men’s and women’s games at the Etihad this weekend.
