Saunders Views Eubank-Benn as 50-50 Fight, Has Been Giving Benn Pointers

Former WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders backs Conor Benn to beat Chris Eubank Jr. in their upcoming middleweight matchup.

Benn and Eubank will collide on October 8 at the O2 Arena in London.

Some are calling the fight a potential mismatch due to the size difference.

Eubank has fought as low as super middleweight, while Benn has competed at welterweight.

But Saunders, who handed Eubank the first loss of his career with a split decision in 2014, sees the fight as an even proposition.

“A lot of people are favoring Eubank because of his size. You know the smart thing the Benns have done here is obviously put the weight restriction on it. Now it all depends on how [Eubank is] I’m going to handle that at 32,” Saunders told DAZN.

“I’m going to present it as a complete 50-50 fight. If you could give Conor Benn another year of experience and then give him the advantage of the weight stage, I would definitely, without hesitation, say Conor Benn.”

Saunders and Eubank have exchanged words many times over the years. And Saunders reveals that she has been talking to Benn about giving him points to get past Eubank.

“With the experience that Eubank has, he’s been in some big fights, but you can never count Conor Benn out and I have a feeling he’s going to get something out of the bag. I have spoken with [Conor]I’ve been talking to him for a while, he looks so composed, he loves him so much, and there’s something at stake here that no one will ever understand, just them,” Saunders said.

“I think Conor wants it more. I stand by that statement as long as my name is Billy Joe Saunders, he will never become a world champion as long as he has a hole in his butt because there is one thing he cannot do and that is box.”
