Roy Jones Jr Says Chris Eubank Jr Beats Conor Benn “with No Problems”

By Allan Fox: Roy Jones Jr picks Chris Eubank Jr to beat inexperienced welterweight Conor Benn with very little trouble on October 8 in their 157-pound catchweight bout at London’s O2 Arena.

Jones has a few things on his mind for the fight. He wants former IBO super middleweight champion Eubank Jr (32-2, 23 KOs) to watch out for young Benn’s left hook.

Conor is more cautious than a pure brawler like his famous father, Nigel Benn, so he focuses more on hitting single shots, hoping to stun his opponents. Once Benn sees that they are injured, he unloads a volley of shots to finish them off.

Benn hasn’t fought anyone good during his career, as he’s been selectively matched against old guys who were never that good, even when they were young.

“I think Eubank wins the fight hands down, but there are some things he has to do to keep Benn in check,” Roy Jones Jr told Fighthype. “I think Eubank is more experienced, he’s bigger and he’s a better fighter.

“All my thoughts go out to Eubank Jr, but there are some things Conor can do to cause trouble. I’ve already warned Chris about those things, so I think he’ll be fine.

“Keep your head down, be careful, be on the lookout for the big left hook. Stuff like that,” Jones Jr said when asked what he is telling Eubank Jr to be careful about in his fight against Benn.

“If it was me and they asked me what he should do, I would have told him to do exactly that,” Jones Jr said of Benn using his father Nigel Benn to help him train and work the corner on Oct. 8.

“Your father is the season where the fight is happening, and having the fathers in the corner is going to make it even bigger for everyone. If I were a fan, I’d like to see Nigel in Conor’s corner and Eubank in Chris’s corner.

“Why would I want to put my own values up for something that is bigger than that? His fight is for his parents. The parents are the reason the fight is even relevant. They wouldn’t be fighting if it wasn’t for their parents. One is welterweight and the other is middleweight,” Jones said.
