Regis Prograis Doubts Teofimo Lopez Will Find Success At 140: “I Don’t See It”

Pedro Campa looked defiantly into the eyes of Teo López, as his confrontation approached. Despite being considered a sizable underdog, Campa stood his ground with Lopez during their ESPN main event on August 13.

Before facing the longtime officers, Lopez confidently predicted that he would leave early for the office. Although he took longer than he originally expected, Lopez eventually found his rhythm in the second half of the fight, earning a seventh-round knockout victory.

As the newly turned contender began to roar and beat his chest, Regis Prograis stood stoic in his palatial estate. In short, while Lopez is convinced that Campa was a worthy opponent, Prograis believes he was made for the loquacious New Yorker.

“He did what he was supposed to do,” Prograis said during an interview with Thaboxingvoice. “I think he fought a fight of confidence to get his confidence back.”

As Prograis alludes to, Lopez was trying to put behind him the nightmarish memories of his previous appearance in the ring. After scoring an unlikely upset against Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020, Lopez found himself on the wrong end of the upset cart against George Kambosos Jr. roughly a year later.

Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) is unwilling to drop the 135-pound weight limit any longer and has begun his new journey as a full-fledged super lightweight. Immediately after his victory over Campa, Lopez urged Top Rank, his current promotion company, to put him in the ring with some of the biggest names in 140-pounds.

Grateful for Lopez’s ambitions, Prograis believes he has seen enough of him in one fight to make his full assessment. The skills, in Prograis’ opinion, are blatant. However, considering the success Campa enjoyed against the former champion, Prograis is convinced Lopez will put up a lot of fight as he continues to move up the 140-pound scale.

“That guy was beating him up and that guy is nowhere near some of the biggest level 140s. I feel like the biggest people in 140, like life size, I know Teo, I’ve been around him many times. Teo is a bit small. He could be wrong, but I just don’t see him meeting at 140”.
