Yokasta Valle-Thi Thu Nih Nguyen LIVE DAZN Results From San Jose, Costa Rica

José Alvarado asked his team to do a test instead of playing it safe at home.

The lawsuit came back to haunt him, as the undefeated lightweight fell short on a road trip to San Jose, Costa Rica. Alvarado suffered an upset six-round majority decision loss to local boxer Keling Fonseca in the opening bout of a six-fight DAZN telecast Thursday night at Cuidad Deportiva Heiner Ugalde in Valle’s hometown of San Jose, Costa Rica.

Fonseca won by leveling cards 57-56, overturning a 56-56 card from the third judge.

Alvarado, trained by former three-division Hall of Fame champion Marco Atnonio Barrera, was deducted a point in the third round for leading with his head, and he also got the brunt of the sequence when he received a cut under the right eye. The night would get worse for the 24-year-old prospect from Ensenada, Mexico, who worked Fonseca’s body but couldn’t fend off the pesky Costa Rican.

Fonseca moves to 4-5 (2KOs), snapping a two-fight losing streak. Alvarado drops to 9-1 (5KOs).

Kyle Erwin suffered a worse fate, receiving his first loss the hard way. A deep cut over his right eye was deemed too serious to continue, which left Erwin suffering a second-round TKO loss to Escazú’s Lorenzo Garro of Costa Rica (4-0, 2KOs).

The fight began with Erwin, who hails from Oceanside, California, attacking, slamming Garro into the ropes. Garro’s right leg gave way twice, falling through the bottom of the ropes, which the referee ruled a knockdown. Erwin was unable to maintain that level of pressure after sustaining a cut to his right eye.

The wound was examined by the ringside doctor, who informed the referee that the visiting fighter could no longer continue. Erwin drops to 5-1 (2KOs) with the loss.

The main event features local hero and IBF strawweight champion Yokasta Valle (25-2, 9KOs) against WBO champion Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen (5-0, 1KOs) of Vietnam in the first-ever unification bout. will take place on Costa Rican soil.
