Shields vs Marshall weigh-in closed to public, fight status up in air

Saturday’s Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall undercard in London, which will be this week’s biggest boxing event, is still underway for now, but more will be known on Friday about whether or not the undercard goes ahead after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

As of this moment, Friday’s weigh-in is still scheduled for the same time (1pm BST, 8am ET in the US), but will no longer be open to the public.

There have been plans for decades to prepare for the Queen’s passing and what will happen to public events such as sports and entertainment.

The expectation today has been that weekend events, including the Premier League and Shields vs Marshall, will probably be postponed, but there is a chance events will still happen.

Shields and Marshall will finally meet in a long-running grudge match for undisputed championship status at middleweight, while the card also features a three-belt unification at 130 pounds between Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner.

Whatever happens, we’ll be here to let you know, so stay tuned, and the official word on the status of the event will be released on Friday.
