Real Sociedad lead at Old Trafford after controversial penalty

Real Sociedad win 1-0 at Old Trafford after a Brais Méndez penalty gives the La Liga side the lead over Manchester United.

There’s a gloomy atmosphere in Manchester tonight following the passing of The Queen and the match hasn’t been action-packed either.

Real Sociedad came close to breaking the tie just before the goal, but a brilliant clearance by Lisandro Martínez prevented it.

The Argentine went from hero to zero shortly after, with a shot by David Silva that hit the defender’s arm and led to a penalty for Real Sociedad.

Méndez scored the penalty, but there is some controversy surrounding the goal, as the ball hit Martínez’s body before leaving his arm.
