Four Manchester United players were involved in England’s 10-0 victory over Luxembourg last night.
With England’s place at the top of Group D secured, Euro Cup hero goalkeeper Mary Earps was left out and Ellie Roebuck instead took the goalkeeper turn.
Before kick-off, Sarina Wiegman received the UEFA Coach of the Year trophy.
Toone, Russo and Parris of the Reds started the game and played well. It was Russo who got to the goal when she was brought down in the area inside the first ten minutes.
Stanway stepped up to take the penalty that took the Lionesses off the mark.
However, it was Russo who secured the second with a close-range header that found the back of the net as she looked to cement her role as England’s new number nine.
Ella Toone was having a great game, creating many chances and in addition to getting on the scoreboard with a penalty, she got two assists showing that she is a true team player.
She helped out her new club teammate, Nikita Parris, when her right footed shot lodged in the bottom left corner.
Meanwhile, Katie Zelem, who came on as a substitute at halftime, found herself delivering some great corner kicks and, in the latter stages of the game, Beth England latched onto one of her crosses and headed in to make it 10-0.
Other scorers included Arsenal’s Beth Mead, Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly and City’s Lauren Hemp.
Las Leonas took the group’s maximum 30 points, scoring 80 goals and conceding none, as they qualified for next year’s World Cup.
They will face the United States and the Czech Republic in the next international break, as they will play friendlies against them on October 7 and 11.
For now, the players will return to their clubs when the WSL season kicks off this weekend.
