WBO middleweight champion Savannah Marshall is just days away from her unification showdown with IBF, WBC and WBA champion Claressa Shields.
The two racing rivals will collide on Saturday at London’s O2 Arena.
Marshall will be looking to seal his victory over Shields from 2012, when the two champions were just amateurs.
That fight was the only time Shields tasted defeat in a boxing ring.
Shields would progress his career with two Olympic gold medals, and world titles in three weight divisions, including undisputed title runs at both junior middleweight and middleweight.
Marshall, regarded as one of the most feared punchers in women’s boxing, is confident that Shields will taste defeat in the pros when they finally trade blows.
Shields has been vocal in his prediction of a one-sided elimination of Marshall. The British boxer pays no attention to teasing.
“She’s said a lot about me, but it doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t bother me. I don’t care what she thinks about anything, she’s not one of my friends or family, so her opinion doesn’t matter to me.” “It means nothing to me at all. We’ll talk in the ring on Saturday night: I’ll take her into deep water and drown her in the Thames,” Marshall said.
Marshall has eliminated ten of his twelve professional opponents. He hasn’t gone the distance since 2018: His most recent fight, against veteran Femke Hermans, ended with a brutal one-punch knockout in three rounds. Hermans had never been stopped and previously went the full distance with Shields in 2018.
