Unfortunately, a hand injury forced Harry Garside to withdraw from his upcoming Australian lightweight title defense against Miles Zalewski, scheduled for Thursday 15th September at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane.
Garside, who aggravated the injury during a recent training session, is disappointed that he won’t be in shape to fight on an intriguing night that sees Paul Gallen take on former Origin rival Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant on the same night.
The Brisbane card will take place as planned on September 15 and will be televised live on Foxtel’s Main Event and Kayo Sports, with fighting favorites Joe Goodall, Jack Bowen and Ty Telford still in action.
No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose said: “Losing Harry in our wildest card of the year is unfortunate, but as they say in the entertainment business, ‘the show must go on’!
“The Origin Rumble is going to be an incredible night of entertainment and Paul Gallen doesn’t miss a beat as to what he’s trying to do.
“He’s been hated here since the day he put on a Blues jersey, but what he’s trying to do is the next level. He is attempting a boxing feat that no one has attempted in 132 years. [fighting two guys in one night] and he’s trying to do it in the same city where he failed to raise the Home State shield once during his career.
“That’s it. This is Gal’s last chance to avenge the decade of overbearing demons that have clearly haunted him for so long and I can’t wait.”
“Tickets move faster than an Origin decider at Suncorp, so get in fast if you want to be a part of history.”
Harry Garside said, “I’m sorry to everyone who was excited to see me back in the ring because I won’t be there next week, especially my opponent.”
“I was just with Miles doing a promo session last week and I know he went through a massive boot camp like I did, but I have to listen to my doctors and my team as I am only at the beginning of my boxing journey.
“It’s definitely a mental and physical challenge because you try so hard to be at the absolute top on fight night, but I couldn’t risk my future going into a fight less than 100%.
“I appreciate the support from the fans and I know that Matt and George at No Limit Boxing will be looking to get him back in the ring as soon as possible when he is ready to come back.”
A massive fight week in Brisbane is planned next week with the official press conference and weigh-in open to the public at the iconic King George Square in the heart of Brisbane’s central business district. Rugby league and fight fans are encouraged to come out and show their support by wearing their respective Origin colours.
