Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, today sacked by the London club, and owner Todd Boehly clashed over the possible transfer of Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Boehly, who recently became part owner of the Blues, desperately wanted Ronaldo to sign for the new regime at Stamford Bridge.
However, Tuchel, now out of work after suffering a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League last night, was adamantly against Ronaldo’s arrival at the club.
According to the reliable Matt Law, the differences over the United striker started an irreparable rift between the former manager and the club’s owner.
“Todd Boehly’s interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo provided an early difference of opinion,” says Law.
“Boehly reluctant to simply accept ‘no’ for an answer from Thomas Tuchelwho seemed exasperated at having to explain his reasons for not wanting it.
German journalist Christian Falk apparently also confirmed this, saying that Tuchel was opposed to signing the striker from United.
“Tthe fact that Thomas Tuchel he resisted buying Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the reasons for the bad relationship with Todd Boehly.”

Highlighting the lengths to which the American billionaire was willing to go to secure the services of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Relevo reports that Boehly was all set to sign no. 7.

While many other factors may have come into play that ultimately contributed to Tuchel’s surprising signing, it’s clear that his refusal to accommodate Ronaldo set things in motion for his downfall at Stamford Bridge.
