On Tuesday night, football fans rejoiced at the return of their favorite competition as the Champions League got off to a strong start. The highlight of the day was the big clash between Paris Saint Germain and Juventus at the Parc des Princes.
The Ligue 1 champions emerged victorious with two goals from their star Kylian Mbappe, although the Bianconeri were saved by a consolation goal courtesy of Weston McKennie.
But unfortunately for Beautiful Game, the sport is often marred by unnecessary but unavoidable incidents off the field.
Apparently a small group of Juventus supporters were bent on mischief in the French capital, and four people were arrested.
“Four people were identified by video and arrested last night by the police for public incitement to racial hatred in a sports facility, during the PSG-Juventus football match,” read a press release from the Paris Prefecture.
According to le Parisien via ilBianconero, a small group of Juventus supporters who were in the away section were recorded making fascist salutes and monkey noises.
Juve FC says
Unfortunately, every fan base has its notorious section, and Juventus is no exception. But on the positive side, the club has adopted a ruthless policy with these types of incidents.
Last season, a fan was banned for life after hurling racial slurs at Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
So let’s expect similar action towards these troublemakers if they were found guilty as charged.
