Rio Ferdinand comments on Chelsea’s managerial situation

The news came as a bit of a shock this morning when Chelsea announced the sacking of manager Thomas Tuchel.

The German coach guided the Blues to three international trophies not too long ago, while also having an incredible ability to guide his team to the final.

Chelsea have not started the season well and hit a low point last night by losing to Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener, which clearly contributed to the German’s sacking despite reports.

Tuchel’s future had already been decided before yesterday’s disappointing final game, The Athletic reported, and Rio Ferdinand has now given his opinion on the Chelsea management situation.

“Anyone coming to Chelsea now would assume it’s a demotion of Thomas Tuchel,” the former Manchester United defender claimed as the Blues now look to replace the German manager.

Who are the first candidates for the position of Chelsea?

As Tuchel is one of the best managers in world football, Ferdinand is right to say that the next manager will probably be a downgrade.

According to The Guardian, Brighton’s Graham Potter is Chelsea’s first choice, but Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane, both out of work, are also on their shortlist.

Potter has a buyout clause which is believed to decrease each year and is currently pegged at around £16m.

The Englishman would be an excellent option to replace Tuchel in the long term, but it is up to the Chelsea board whether they want a prolonged project or success at the moment.
